I am excited to announce that NYSUT has gained a big victory in regards to SOCE Workshops. Below is a message from NYSUT Regional Staff Director Peter Verdon explaining what happened and how it will affect our membership.
NYSUT successfully convinced SED to make some big changes. As long as the teacher has three years teaching by June 30 th 2020, they will now have three years to take the necessary workshops. Additionally, they will only need to make a one time payment of $100.00 no matter how many SOCE subject areas are needed. Anyone who paid more than $100 will be refunded.
This is certainly a notable victory that Our Union was able to achieve for Our Members, and will make matters much more manageable for those impacted. The original plan that I outlined before the holiday break will move forward. Below are the registration links for the workshops being held at the Suffolk Regional Office in February and March. There will be no cost for these specific offerings. Moving forward, we will assess the need to charge for any future offerings, however in such an event I would anticipate them being minimal.
