The West Islip Teachers’ Association gives scholarships to graduating seniors of any WITA member, and at this year’s General Membership meeting, we awarded three scholarships. It was our pleasure to recognize the achievements of this year’s winners pictured below:
Darren Hinchman – son of Trish Hinchman
Logan Robertson – son of Theresa Robertson
William "Liam" Busch – son of Karen McCarthy
The West Islip Teachers’ Association also awards scholarships to graduating seniors of the West Islip School District every year. Many excellent candidates applied for these awards and this year’s recipients were:
Stephanie Oliveri
Ava Maresca
The West Islip Teachers’ Association is also the custodian of the Sergeant Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Scholarship. Sergeant Tuozzolo was a 19-year veteran of the New York City Police Department who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on November 4, 2016. His memory has been honored each year with the award of two scholarships to graduating seniors of the West Islip School District. This year’s winners, presented by WITA, were:
John Boniberger
Keirsten Nizen
The West Islip Teachers’ Association also belongs to the Long Island Teachers’ Benevolent Fund (LITBF), which offers an annual scholarship. The Len Motisi Memorial Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors graduating this year who will be attending a post-secondary institution full-time and whose parent is an active teacher in a Long Island local. This scholarship is in honor of Leonard Motisi, the former president of the Syosset Teachers’ Association, who passed away in 1995. Many of our WITA members’ sons and daughters have been awarded this scholarship over the years. This year’s recipients of the Len Motisi scholarship were:
Logan Robertson son of Theresa Robertson
Kaia Di Visconti daughter of Dawn Di Visconti
Thanks to Celia Field, Kristin Grossi, Siobhan Kelly, Theresa Robertson, Tina Schaefer, and Kathleen Scrivani, who comprise the Scholarship Committee, and Chairperson Karen McCarthy for their hard work selecting these deserving recipients.
