Message from President, Joe Dixon
Over the past few months, West Islip Teachers' Association has been working in conjunction with NYSUT to establish a plan to face the possible effects of the outcome of a current US Supreme Court Case. Last Monday, oral arguments were heard in JANUS v. AFSCME (American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees), one of the most important labor cases in recent history. Over the next several weeks, WITA will be introducing, educating, and informing our members of the seriousness of this case and what is at stake pending the outcome. You must understand that the decision of this case has the potential to negatively affect unionized workers throughout the country. Please read and review all information pertaining to the JANUS case and do not hesitate to ask questions because we have a lot at stake.
With the recent school shooting, NYSUT and the NEA have issued some directives and statements on protests and guns in our schools. Please click the following links to download NYSUT's statement and NEA's directive.
