A Message from the WITA Executive Board
In January, Governor Kathy Hochul released her proposed budget for 2024-2025. The budget includes drastic changes to the foundation aid formula and the elimination of “Save Harmless,” which will significantly harm many public schools in New York, including West Islip. These changes would result in a loss of 6.8 million dollars to West Islip Schools’ budget over the next two years.
NYSUT and Democratic and Republican legislators responded by sharply and quickly condemning these changes. Recent reports that the Governor is open to modifying her proposal are encouraging but cannot be taken for granted. WE MUST KEEP UP THE PRESSURE TO REVERSE THESE CUTS.
To ensure that Governor Hochul understands how important reversing these cuts is to Long Island educators, parents, and schools, NYSUT has organized the “Fund Our Future” rally. Please join us and members from all Long Island locals at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, in Hauppauge at the H Lee Dennison Building, 100 Veterans Memorial Highway.
