As we begin the Easter/Passover Break, the Executive Board would like to wish you a restful vacation and safe travels as we let you know about a few things.
Lawrence Teachers Association Rally
The Lawrence Teachers’ Association is in its 12th year working under an expired contract and has organized a rally to raise awareness and generate media attention. The strength of unions is in collective action, and after more than a decade of fighting for a fair settlement, it is time for Long Island locals to help. We ask that you attend this event to support our fellow NYSUT members and to stand against these outrageous working conditions. The rally will take place on Sunday, April 23rd, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Once it is received, more information will be shared, but please save the date and time for this important event.
WITA Scholarships
Each year the West Islip Teachers’ Association awards scholarships to graduating seniors of WITA members. There is still time for your graduating son or daughter to apply for one of these scholarships. Applications are available on the West Islip Teachers’ Association website or by clicking here. All applications should be submitted by Friday, April 21, 2023.
Long Island Teachers Benevolent Fund Grants
The Long Island Teachers Benevolent Fund (LIBTF) was created when NYSUT locals on Long Island joined together to provide financial assistance to members in need. Since its inception, it has provided thousands of dollars in grants to members in need who are called into active military service, facing severe illness or personal catastrophe, and to families of members who died while in active service. Grant applications and information can be found by clicking the links below and must be delivered to WITA President Joe Dixon to be processed.
NYSUT Member Benefits
The NYSUT Member Benefits Center offers many discounts, service programs, and assistance plans free of charge to all NYSUT members. If you want help with insurance, legal or financial assistance, making travel arrangements, or looking for home energy savings, there are opportunities in the Member Benefits Center.
