Anyone who is considering retirement effective July 1st, 2021 you must notify the district in writing by March 1st. In accordance with Article XIV section B1 of our negotiated bargaining agreement with the district a written notice of retirement and a request for compensation for our unused sick days must be submitted four months prior to our date of intent to retire. A sample letter is posted on our website and should be written to Bernadette Burns and copied to Brian Taylor.
When retiring you must give notice to the local district and to the New York State Teacher Retirement System. You can file online through MyNYSTRS (age 55+). You cannot retire from the retirement system before age 55 and applications are only accepted within 90 days of your retirement date.
