The West Islip Teachers Association offers scholarships to graduating seniors of any WITA member and West Islip students every year. The WITA Memorial Scholarship application can be found on our website and is due by Wednesday, April 27th. The Long Island Teachers Benevolent Fund Len Motisi Memorial Scholarship application can also be found on our website and is due March 4th. When filling out this application, you will need the NYSUT Local #, 21-055. You will also need your NYSUT Member #, which you can find by logging into the NYSUT website, or you can send an email to Joe Dixon at president@westislipteachers.org and it can be looked up for you.
In addition to the scholarships, there are grants available to members through the Long Island Teachers Benevolent Fund. The LITBF catastrophic grant is for any member who has had a serious illness or death in the immediate family requiring expenditures exceeding $3000 “out of pocket” money and not covered by insurance. This grant is also for any member who has suffered a catastrophic personal loss requiring expenditures exceeding $3000 “out of pocket” money and not covered by insurance. There are also burial and military grants available, applications for which can be found on our website. All LITBF applications must be delivered to Joe Dixon to be signed and processed.
NYSUT also has a grant for both manmade disasters (such as an accidental fire) or natural disasters. This grant application can be found on the NYSUT website.
