The Brookhaven Memorial Federation of Nurses and Healthcare Professionals has been affiliated with NYSUT since 1998 and is in the middle of challenging contract negotiations. They represent over 700 nurses and health care professionals at Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue. In addition to improved wages and benefits, a major issue is staffing ratios. Without enforceable staffing ratios, the health and safety of their members are at risk, and the ability to provide the high-quality care that residents deserve is being jeopardized.
