Public Relations Update
The West Islip Teachers’ Association Public Relations Committee has been busy organizing a full slate of events and would like to update you on some of the coming plans for this month.
Homecoming Food Drive to take place on Saturday, October 8th
The Public Relations Team will be collecting non-perishable food items at the WITA Tent before and during the West Islip Football Team’s Homecoming game. All donations will go to local food pantries to be distributed to West Islip families in need. The football game begins at 2:00 PM and will be preceded by the annual Homecoming Parade, which starts at noon and travels from Westbrook Elementary School to the Stadium Turf Field at the High School.
WITA will also be giving out Rally Towels at the game, so come down and bring a donation for the Food Drive. Please see a delegate if you are interested in collecting donations or distributing towels.
Color Run on Sunday, October 16th
The WITA Public Relations Team will also be at the Color Run organized by the West Islip Health and Wellness Alliance, handing out snacks and bottled water to participants as they complete the race. The race begins at 10:00 AM and is about three-quarters of a mile following the perimeter of the West Islip High School grounds. If you would like to participate, pre-registration is Saturday, October 15th, in the West Islip High School Lower Gym from 12:00-1:30 PM, but walk-ups are also welcome. If you would like to volunteer at the event, please get in touch with a WITA building delegate.
World Teacher’s Day
World Teacher’s Day is held on October 5th each year to celebrate teachers all around the world. UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) has celebrated World Teacher’s Day since 1994 in recognition of educators’ responsibilities and accomplishments. It is organized in coordination with the International Labor Organization, UNICEF, and Education International to acknowledge our work in meeting the needs of an evolving society.
