As you are most certainly aware, Tuesday, May 18th is the day for local School Budget and Board of Education Elections. Regarding the Election here in West Islip, here is the information you need to know:

WITA is asking members of the West Islip community to vote "YES" on the proposed and adopted budget for school year 2021-2022. The proposed and adopted school budget does not make any cuts to staff or program and does not exceed the state tax levy cap. As such, this is a budget that supports the needs of our students in a way that is fiscally responsible and sustainable for tax-paying residents.

This year, there are three individuals running for Board Trustee. WITA has endorsed two candidates in this race that will most benefit our education community while working for what is in the best interest of West Islip Residents.

We are asking that voters support the re-election of RICH ANTONIELLO.

Rich Antoniello is an incumbent trustee who has stood by our teachers and students. He and his wife are involved parents in the community. Their two children attend West Islip public schools. Rich is a social studies teacher in the Plainview - Old Bethpage School District. Rich has served as a delegate to his local union. Rich has been, and will continue to be a partner to teachers and students when it comes to making tough decisions on the BOE.

We are also asking that voters support the election of DEBBIE BROWN.

Debbie Brown is a registered nurse and student advocate who seeks tobring a fresh perspective to the BOE. Debbie and her husband are involved parents in the community. Their three children attend West Islip Public Schools. Once elected, Debbie Brown will bring the unique perspective of being a mom to the Board, as she will be the only mother on the BOE with children currently enrolled in our schools. Her work as a nurse will bring a much-needed viewpoint of health and safety as we continue to grapple with the pandemic. Debbie Brown is supportive of our teachers and students alike, and will work with all stakeholders to bring opportunity to our school community in a fiscally responsible way.

To learn more about the candidates that WITA has endorsed, please see the attached flyer and tune into the West Islip Council of PTA's annual Meet the Candidate Night this Monday, May 10th, at 7:30 pm. The event will be held in a virtual format and can be accessed by clicking here.
